Vojtech Hruban named Top Czech Player

Nymburk forward Vojtech Hruban has been named the 2013-2014 VTB United League's Top Czech Player. The player received his award in Nymburk from legendary Czech center Jiri Zidek, currently the official representative of the VTB United League to the Euroleague and FIBA.

This is the second-straight year that the VTB United League has honored the top individual players in each of the League's nine countries. In the six nations represented by just one club (Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic and Kazakhstan), the League picks the winners. Elsewhere, in Russia (represented by 10 clubs), Lithuania and Ukraine (two clubs each), the top player is determined by the League and a leading sports media outlet in that country: Russian information agency R-Sport (RIA-Novosti), Lithuanian website basketnews.lt and Ukrainian website basket-planet.com.

Vojtech Hruban wins the award for the first time (Nymburk forward Petr Benda earned the award last season). Hruban played in 18 games for Nymburk in the VTB United League this season, averaging 8.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and an efficiency rating of 8.3.

- I'm happy to receive this award, - Hruban noted in an interview with VTB-League.com. - For me personally, the season was pretty successful. I'm disappointed that Nymburk missed the playoffs by two games. We came up short in a few decisive games in the final minutes and that had an impact at the end. As for me, I need to continue improving. I'm not too consistent. I hope that next season will be more successful, both for me and for the team.

Vojtech Hruban is the fourth player to be honored as the top player in his country this season. Poland's Damian Kulig (Turow), Estonia's Rain Veideman (Kalev) and Ukraine's Kyrylo Natyazhko (Azovmash) have already been honored. Five more standouts from five League countries (Belarus, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania and Russia) will be announced and receive their awards during the playoffs.
