Recapping latest free agent moves

VTB United League clubs are staying active in free agency with the start of the 2015-16 season just two months away. VTB-League.com recaps the biggest signings in recent weeks.

Lokomotiv-Kuban. Brian Randle, Alexey Zozulin, Dontaye Draper (pictured)

Krasnodar parted with Derrick Brown this summer, but didn't need much time to find a worthy replacement. Like Brown, Brian Randle is excellent on fast breaks and getting to the basket. He can also knock down the mid-range jumper and rates as an elite defender.

Alexey Zozulin won three straight championships with CSKA, but left the team this summer in hopes of earning more playing time. He'll have to earn it at Loko, but the experienced guard will definitely make Kuban deeper and more balanced.

Dontaye Draper is another vet certain to make the Red-Greens better. Dependable defense, playmaking, a reliable outside shot and experience at Europe's top clubs (Real, Anadolu Efes) - that's what the 30-year-old American guard with a Croatian passport brings to the table. He was one of the club's top targets this offseason.

Krasnodar fans are also hoping the club can seal the deal with guard Dairis Bertans. The Railwaymen still have more work to do this summer.

Nizhny Novgorod. Eric Maynor, Ivan Strebkov, Victor Rudd (pictured)

Fan favorite and team leader Taylor Rochestie moved to Maccabi Tel-Aviv over the summer. While Rochestie will be missed, excitement is already building with the arrival of Eric Maynor. Before a serious knee injury, the guard had a guaranteed spot in the NBA. Now he's trying to get back to the top. Given Nizhny Novgorod's track record for resuscitating careers, this should be a good fit.

Nizhny is especially good at getting the best out of Russian prospects. After a loan at Avtodor and bench time at CSKA, talented point guard Ivan Strebkov is looking for a breakthrough season under Ainars Bagatskis.

Victor Rudd didn't make the NBA out of college, spending time in the D-League and Summer League. The versatile forward has decided to take a different approach this season, jumping to Europe. Rudd can play at both small and power forward positions and will bring plenty of aggressiveness and high-flying athleticism to Nizhny's offense.

Zenit. Zabian Dowdell, Pavel Antipov (pictured), Dmitry Golovin

One of Zenit's leaders last season, Walter Hodge, decided not to extend his contract. Zabian Dowdell will be asked to take his place. The experienced American has very little in common with Hodge. Dowdell isn't as explosive or scoring-minded, but he's very reliable getting his big men involved on pick-n-rolls, driving to the basket and doing his part on defense.

After moving to St. Petersburg from Nizhny Novgorod, Dmitry Golovin can be counted on: the scrappy, never-back-down guard will make each minute on the court count.

Zenit also said goodbye to Pavel Spiridonov and Dejan Borovnjak. Vasily Karasev knows Pavel Antipov well from coaching the Russian university squad. The forward should make an impact at Zenit. He got a lot of minutes in Kazan last season and hopes for even more playing time this season. He's able to switch between small and power forward positions, increasing his value to Karasev. Just 24 years old, he's already got a lot of experience and he's ready to help right away.

UNICS. Latavious Williams, Evgeny Fidii (pictured)

Known for his exciting, flashy play on the court, Latavious Williams improves Kazan's athleticism and chances of making the highlight reels.

Evgeny Fidii is another new forward on UNICS's roster. The young Russian will need to work hard to earn minutes on a deep Kazan roster.

Avtodor. Jeff Brooks (pictured), Evgeny Kolesnikov

Jeff Brooks was one of Serie A champion Dinamo Sassari's top players last season.  Saratov hopes that he'll be an even bigger star in Russia. Brooks can play both small and power forward, though Avtodor will put him at small forward most of the time. Excellent 3-point shooting, an ability to play up-tempo on offense and physical defense make him a perfect fit in Saratov where he hopes to reach the next level.

Signing league veteran Evgeny Kolesnikov will help Avtodor maintain a balance between Russians and foreigners as well as add depth to the roster.

Astana. Alexey Zhukanenko (pictured), Adam Kemp, Kenny Hayes

Alexey Zhukanenko has always played for Russian powerhouses during his career, but has never been more than a role player. Moving to a more modest, but still ambitious club in Kazakhstan could help the experienced center reboot his career. Still only 29 years old, Zhukanenko has a lot of years left on the court.

208 cm forward Adam Kemp will also add size to Astana's roster. A successful season at Macedonia's Feni Industries gave Kemp an opportunity to sign with a bigger club. The Marist University grad isn't as explosive as former NBA star Shawn Kemp, but he's productive and will give the Kazakhs another solid rebounder.

Point guard Kenny Hayes has already made a name for himself in Europe. After earning Most Improved Player in the D-League in 2012, he spent two years in Israel, before moving to Italian club Cremona last season. Hayes averaged 15.4 points in 28 games there. Astana leader Jerry Johnson will have some solid support going forward.

Enisey. Alexey Vzdykhalkin, Tim Olbrecht (pictured), Pavel Spiridonov

Enisey got a new head coach, Russian Oleg Okulov. Krasnoyarsk fans hope to see a new brand of basketball in 2015-16 and improved results. The club's most recent signings are reason for optimism. Alexey Vzdykhalkin was captain at Avtodor last season. The guard provides more than a healthy presence in the locker room; he's also excellent from beyond the arc. He finished in the Top 10 last season in the league with a 43.1% mark.

Pavel Spiridonov is another talented Russian to join Enisey. The 24-year-old forward enjoyed an excellent second half of the season with Zenit and it's clear that he has plenty of room to improve even more. Spiridonov is already a solid rebounder and able to stretch defenses with his outside shot.

Tim Olbrecht is an experienced center at 27 years of age. He won the NBA D-League twice and spent some time with the Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76'ers. He's also played at the Olympic Games, World Championships and EuroBasket. Olbrecht suited up for Ulm last season, reaching the Bundesliga semifinals. Expectations are high for the big man in Krasnoyarsk, where the coaching staff hopes he'll dominate under the basket.

Krasny Oktyabr. Dmitry Sokolov, JaJuan Johnson (pictured), D.J. Cooper, Richard Guinn, Quinton Hosley

Krasny Oktyabr got busy late last month, enjoying a very productive week on the free agent market. Russian center Dmitry Sokolov signed on Friday after several seasons with CSKA and UNICS and the Russian national team. Sokolov was a bench player at both clubs, but he's very reliable when called on. He does tons of dirty work on defense, rebounds and finishes pick-n-rolls with authority.

JaJuan Johnson was drafted 27th in the 2011 NBA Draft and provides more depth at center. His mobility and athleticism also allow him to play at power forward. Johnson has spent two successful seasons in Europe (Pistoia and Besiktas), averaging 14 points and 6 rebounds per game.

Richard Guinn played for Ferro-ZNTU Zaporozhye from 2011-2013, coached by new Krasny Oktyabr boss Kirill Bolshakov and teammates with ex-Volgograd guard Randy Culpepper. He may not be as charismatic as Culpepper, but his perimeter shooting and paint presence will guarantee him playing time.

Quinton Hosley is another versatile signing for Krasny Oktyabr. The American swingman with a Georgian passport is effective on both ends of the court. When Oktyabr decides to go small, Hosley can even move over to power forward.

D.J. Cooper spent last season with Enisey, where he led the league in assists at 9.3 per game. During a January game vs. Astana, Cooper set the single-game record with 23 dimes. There was talk of the NBA this summer, but Cooper decided to return to Russia. He should bring order to the Steelmen's offense, which was a little too chaotic and selfish last season.
