Janis Berzins Wins Young Player Of The Month

VEF forward Janis Berzins has been named the VTB United League's February Young Player of the Month.

For the 4th straight year, the VTB United League will recognize the league's Young Player of the Year at the conclusion of the regular season, awarded to a player born in 1993 or later. The league also names a monthly MVP and Top 3, with those results impacting the selection of the Young Player of the Year.

VEF forward Janis Berzins takes home the honor in February. The 22-year-old Latvian played in five games last month (vs. Krasny Oktyabr, Tsmoki-Minsk, Kalev, Nymburk and Astana), helping lead Riga to a 3-2 record, the team's best month of the regular season. Berzins averaged 10.2 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists and a 8.6 efficiency rating during the stretch.

Joining Berzins in February's Top 3 are Avtodor center Artem Klimenko and Enisey guard Denis Zakharov.

- I'm happy to receive this honor. It's always nice when your success gets recognized, - said Berzins. - At the same time, I feel like I can play better and help VEF even more. This recognition is motivating and will force me to work harder. I hope we can finish the season on a high note and secure several more big wins.
