Tanel Sokk – League’s top Estonian player
Kalev guard Tanel Sokk has been recognized as the VTB United League’s top Estonian player in 2012/13. He received his award today in Tallinn from VTB United League general director Andrey Shirokov prior to the Kalev – Astana game.
This season the VTB United League inaugurated individual prizes for the top players from each of the nine countries featuring at least one League club (the prize is awarded by citizenship, not club allegiance). In the six countries represented by only one club (Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic and Kazakhstan), the honoree will be determined by a panel of League experts. The top player from Russia (nine clubs), Lithuania (three clubs) and Ukraine (two clubs) will be chosen by the League in partnership with a leading sports media outlet in that country: Russian information agency R-Sport (RIA Novosti), Lithuanian website basketnews.lt and Ukrainian website basket-planet.com.
Tanel Sokk is the 2nd player to be recognized. Petr Benda was honored last weekend in Prague as the top Czech player. Sokk played 16 games for Kalev this season, averaging 6.9 points, 2.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and a 6.4 performance index rating.
- I’m very pleased to earn this award from the VTB United League, - noted Sokk in an interview with our website. – It’s always nice to receive an individual award, but basketball is a team game. Playing and winning with my teammates is my primary goal.
