Quino Colom Wins Sixth Man Of The Year

UNICS guard Quino Colom has been named the 2015-16 VTB United League Sixth Man of the Year. He was honored prior to Game 1 of the playoff semifinals in Kazan, receiving his prize from UNICS president Evgeny Bogachev.

The league's expert panel, which features 12 basketball legends from across Eastern Europe--Gundars Vetra (Latvia), Ivan Edeshko (Russia), Sergei Elevich (Russia), Jiri Zidek (Czech Republic), Andrei Kirilenko (Russia), Ilona Korstin (Russia), Nikita Morgunov (Russia), Hanno Mottola (Finland), Martin Muursepp (Estonia), Egor Meshcheryakov (Belarus), Sergei Tarakanov (Russia) and Valery Tikhonenko (Kazakhstan/Russia)--selected the Sixth Man of the Year (players must have started more than 50% of games on the bench).

The most votes (5) went to UNICS guard Quino Colom. The Spaniard beat out Khimki guard Petteri Koponen (4) and CSKA guard Milos Teodosic (3).

Quino Colom played in 30 games during the regular season (starting 23 on the bench), averaging 13.1 points, 6.4 assists, 4.9 rebounds and a 15.9 efficiency rating. He provided a big spark for CSKA's offense, igniting the attack as a super sub.

This is the 3rd year that that league has awarded the Sixth Man of the Year. Khimki forward James Augustine won in 2013-14, while teammate Petteri Koponen picked up the honor in 2014-15.

- Winning the Sixth Man of the Year is a big honor for me, - said Colom. - Especially in a league with so many great players. This is a reward for my work and it's not just mine. The entire team worked hard and played at a high level. I try to help UNICS win as much as possible. It doesn't matter if I'm a starter or come off the bench.
