Nymburk Stumbles In Riga

VEF defeated Nymburk on Monday night, 81-73. The home team took control in the 1st quarter and rode its defense to the upset win. Riga improves to 6-15, notching only its 2nd victory at home, while Nymburk drops to 11-9.

6th in the standings, Nymburk was favored in Riga vs. 15th-place VEF. But the home team has traditionally played well against the Lions and hoped to spring the upset on Monday night.

Nymburk scored 20 points in the 1st quarter, but gave up 25 to trail by five at the end of the period. During the 2nd quarter, the visitors' offense went completely silent, scoring a measly 10 points to trail by 12 at halftime, 42-30. Josh Harrellson was key for the home team, contributing 14 points in the first half to help VEF to a big advantage.

The game opened up in the second half. Nymburk's shooting percentage improved, but VEF kept pace, narrowly winning a high-scoring 3rd quarter (25-24).

During the 4th, Nymburk made a run, cutting the deficit to five midway through the period. Harrellson, however, ensured that the home team would come out on top, stringing together nine quick points to give VEF the win.
