Nymburk Outlasts Enisey In Double OT
Nymburk defeated Enisey on the road, 92-88. The game was decided in double overtime as Nymburk picked up a valuable road win. Jiri Welsch knocked down a big shot in the second extra period, helping Ronen Ginzburg's men pull away for the victory.
Intro
A rivalry is budding between the league's westernmost and easternmost clubs. Games between these two teams are often close and home-court advantage has been a huge factor. Entering Monday's clash, Enisey hoped that trend would hold.
But visiting Nymburk threw the first punch. Head coach Ronen Ginzburg went big to start the game and the strategy worked as Enisey struggled to score against Nymburk's size.
Trailing by eight, Krasnoyarsk got a spark off the bench from Denis Zakharov and cut the deficit to one, 22-21, at the end of the 1st quarter.
The score stayed close the rest of the first half. Nymburk was more physical and aggressive, while Krasnoyarsk did damage with its speed and perimeter shooting. The home team led by as much as eight in the 2nd quarter, before Nymburk cut the lead to four, 42-38, entering halftime.
Enisey put together an 11-0 run early in the 3rd quarter to go in front by 13, 53-40. Nymburk responded by upping the tempo, knocking down several easy baskets and evening the score early in the 4th quarter.
After a back-and-forth period, both teams had opportunities to win the game in regulation, but ultimately forced overtime.
Turning Point
The game needed two extra periods. With 33 seconds to play in double OT, Artem Yakovenko stole the ball from Howard Sant-Roos. Trailing by three, Krasnoyarsk needed a '3' to tie it up, but Alexey Vzdykhalkin and Pavel Sergeev could not connect, despite several chances from outside. Nymburk finally secured the rebound after three missed attempts and iced the win at the free-throw line.
Star Player
Vojtech Hruban. After spending most of the first half on the bench thanks to foul trouble, Hruban's appearance in the 3rd quarter turned the game around for Nymburk. The big man ran the fast break, beat his man 1-on-1 and barely missed from outside. He didn't have as big of an impact in overtime, but he had already done his part to bring Nymburk back from the brink.
Stat of the Game
33% - Krasnoyarsk made just 1/3 of its field-goal attempts. The home team attempted 84 shots and made just 28, including several huge misses at the end of regulation and overtime.
