Nizhny Novgorod Claims 7th Place, Edges Out Nymburk

Nizhny Novgorod defeated Nymburk at home, 91-76. The home team started strong on defense, adding offense in the second half to pull away for the win. With the victory, Nizhny moves into 7th place, avoiding a first-round matchup with CSKA in the playoffs.

Tied for 7th place with identical 16-13 records, Nizhny Novgorod and Nymburk squared off on Sunday to decide first-round matchups. The winner advanced to play UNICS, while the loser got reigning champs CSKA.

Not surprisingly, the intensity in the game was playoff-worthy with both clubs battling hard on defense. Nizhny Novgorod came out on top in the first half, securing a 46-36 lead thanks to 14 points from Dmitry Khvostov and 11 points from Victor Rudd. Nymburk didn't have anyone in double digits after two quarters.

Turning Point
Khvostov and Vladimir Ivlev started the second half by converting three-point plays, before Semyon Antonov and Khvostov struck from beyond the arc. The outburst on offense gave Nizhny a comfortable 15-point advantage, allowing the home team to control the tempo the rest of the way. Nymburk never threatened down the stretch, suffering a 15-point defeat on the road.

Dmitry Khvostov. The Russian point guard led Nizhny's offense, helping his team put the game away in the 3rd quarter. He finished with 23 points on efficient 8-13 shooting to go with eight assists.
