Lokomotiv-Kuban And CSKA Advance To Euroleague Final Four!
Two Russian clubs in the VTB United League--CSKA and Lokomotiv-Kuban--have advanced to the Euroleague Final Four! This is the first time that Russia has sent two representatives to the Euroleague's final stage.
CSKA advanced first, taking care of business vs. Crvena Zvezda in the quarterfinals (a 3-0 sweep). CSKA has now reached the Euroleague Final Four 13 times in 14 years.
Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar caused an even bigger stir. Krasnodar shocked Europe by qualifying for the quarterfinals, then taking down powerhouse Barcelona to book a trip to Berlin for the Final Four.
The series went the distance, featuring a Game 5 in front of 7,500 rabid Lokomotiv fans in Krasnodar. Trailing in the 4th quarter, Kuban put together a 23-5 run to clinch the victory and win the series!
Thus, two VTB United League clubs--CSKA and Lokomotiv-Kuban--will play in the Euroleague Final Four in Berlin, to be contested on May 13 and 15. But only one team will advance to the final as the Army Men and Railwaymen meet in the semifinals.
