Jiri Welsch named League's top Czech player

Nymburk forward Jiri Welsch has been named the VTB United League's top Czech player in 2014-15. He was honored on April 19 prior to the Nymburk - Khimki game in Nymburk. Jiri Zidek, the VTB United League's official representative to the Euroleague and FIBA, presented the award.

This is the third year that the VTB United League has honored the top players in each country represented by League clubs. In the six countries with just one club (Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Finland), the league awards the prize. In Russia, which has 10 clubs, Russian information agency TASS partners with the league to name the top Russian player.

This is the first year that Jiri Welsch has received the honor. Nymburk forward Vojtech Hruban picked up the award last season, while Petr Benda won the inaugural award in 2012-13.

Welsch played 28 games for Nymburk, averaging 24.5 minutes, 6.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.5 assists and an efficiency rating of 8.6.

- I'm happy to receive this prize, - Jiri Welsch said in an interview with VTB-League.com. - To be honest, Nymburk didn't have the best season. This prestigious individual honor will leave a little better impression. Thank you to the league for the recognition.
