Janis Timma named League's Top Latvian Player

VEF forward Janis Timma has been named the VTB United League's Top Latvian Player in 2014-15. He was honored on April 26 prior to the VEF - Zenit game in Riga. Edgars Janups, chairman of VEF's board of directors, presented Timma with the award.

This is the third year that the VTB United League has honored the top players in each country represented by League clubs. In the six countries with just one club (Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan and Finland), the league awards the prize. In Russia, which has 10 clubs, Russian information agency TASS partners with the league to name the top Russian player.

This is the first year that Janis Timma has received the honor. Astana guard Janis Blums picked up the award last season, while VEF's Kristaps Janicenoks won the inaugural award in 2012-13.

Timma played 28 games for VEF, averaging 29.0 minutes, 12.9 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.4 assists, 1.4 steals and an efficiency rating of 14.3.

- It's a big honor to receive this award, - said Janis Timma in an interview with VTB-League.com. - Especially since there are good Latvian players on other teams around the league, not just VEF. It's a shame this award is only consolation for a bitter disappointment. We wanted to make the playoffs. In any case, it gives me even more motivation to work on my game and get better.
