Janis Timma Named League's Top Latvian Player
Zenit forward Janis Timma has been named the VTB United League's Top Latvian Player in 2015-16. He was honored on May 1 in St. Petersburg prior to Game 1 of the Zenit - Avtodor quarterfinal series.
This is the 4th year that the VTB United League has honored the top players in each country represented by League clubs. In the seven countries with just one club (Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Finland and Georgia), the league awards the prize. In Russia, which has nine clubs, Russian information agency
partners with the league to name the top Russian player.
Janis Timma receives the honor for the 2nd year in a row. Astana guard Janis Blums picked up the award in 2013-14, while VEF's Kristaps Janicenoks won the inaugural prize in 2012-13.
Timma played 29 games for Zenit, averaging 26.5 minutes, 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals and an efficiency rating of 15.6.
- I'm really happy to receive this honor, - Timma told VTB-League.com. - It's not that easy to be the best Latvian player in the league with my teammate Kaspars Berzins, Rolands Freimanis of Kalev and a whole bunch of talented guys at VEF in the league. This prize is extra motivation for me. I hope I can help Zenit be successful in the playoffs.
