Dmitry Khvostov: League's Top Russian Player In March
Nizhny Novgorod guard Dmitry Khvostov has been named the VTB United League's top Russian player in March.
This is the 4th season that the VTB United League will honor the top players from each league country, with the 2015-16 award winners to be announced at the end of the regular season.
An expert panel appointed by the VTB United League will determine the winners in the seven countries represented by one club (Latvia, Estonia, Belarus, Czech Republic, Kazakhstan, Finland and Georgia). The top player in Russia, represented by nine clubs, will be determined by league experts and media partner TASS. The results from each month of the regular season will also be factored into the selection.
Nizhny Novgorod guard Dmitry Khvostov picks up the award in the 6th month of the season. His club went 4-1 in March, including victories against UNICS and Lokomotiv-Kuban. Nizhny also clinched a spot in the postseason and is now gearing up for the playoffs. Khvostov played a huge part in the club's success, running Nizhny's dynamic offense, while averaging a little over 32 minutes per game. He finished the month with terrific stats: 14.0 points, 1.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per outing to go along with a 16.0 efficiency rating.
Joining Khvostov in March's Top 3, as selected by the VTB United League and TASS, are Khimki guard Alexey Shved and UNICS guard Anton Ponkrashov.
Nizhny Novgorod guard Maxim Grigoryev won the award in October, CSKA guard Alexey Shved earned honors in November and December, CSKA guard Vitaly Fridzon came out on top in January and Viktor Khryapa was recognized in February.
- I'm thankful to the VTB United League for the recognition, but most of this honor goes to my team, - noted Khvostov. - Thank you to my teammates and coaches for believing in and trusting me. Thank you to my family for always being with me. We had a good month and we need to finish the regular season in similar style, so we're confident entering the postseason.
