CSKA: Euroleague Champs!
CSKA captured the Euroleague crown on Sunday night in Berlin. The Army Men won the title for the first time in eight years and the third time in the 21st century (also Prague 2006 and Madrid 2008).
Two VTB United League clubs advanced to the Final Four this season: CSKA and Lokomotiv-Kuban. The Russian powerhouses met in the semifinals with the Army Men advancing thanks to a 101-88 victory. Dimitris Itoudis's club then played Fenerbahce in the final. Leading by 20 points in the first half, CSKA survived a wild Fenerbahce comeback and forced overtime on a last-second putback from captain Viktor Khryapa's. The extra period belonged to the Army Men, who won by five points, 101-96, to capture the title!
Nando De Colo was named the Euroleague Final Four MVP, scoring 30 points in the semis and 22 points in the championship game.
Lokomotiv-Kuban also finished on a high note, defeating Laboral Kutxa in the 3rd-place game, 85-75, to earn Euroleague bronze in the club's first-ever Final Four appearance.
