Avtodor Pulls Away From Nymburk
Avtodor defeated Nymburk in Saratov, 92-84. Led by Jeremy Chappell's 19 points, Avtodor overcame a seven-point deficit at halftime to secure its 5th win of the season. Nymburk got within three late, but Travis Peterson's '3' in the final minute sealed the win for the home team.
Intro
Nymburk starters Julian Vaughn and Howard Sant-Roos didn't travel with the team to Saratov. Coupled with a blowout loss in Moscow last week, Ronen Ginzburg's men faced a tough task on the road against Avtodor.
Not surprisingly, the home team raced out to a 29-22 lead in the 1st quarter. Peterson led all scorers with eight points, knocking down a pair of 3's midway through the period to put Avtodor on top.
Saratov's tempo slowed in the 2nd quarter and Nymburk took advantage. Led by Chasson Randle, the visitors outscored Avtodor by 14 and surged into the break with a seven-point lead, 51-44.
Avtodor bounced back in the third. 27 points, including 13 from Jeremy Chappell, helped Alexey Vasilyev's men to a five-point lead.
Midway through the final period, Saratov led by as much as 12. Nymburk responded with an 11-2 run, cutting the deficit to three with 90 seconds to play.
Turning Point
The outcome was decided on one shot. With 40 seconds remaining, Avtodor's Paul Stoll and Travis Peterson combined on a pick-and-pop with Peterson dropping back to drain a 3-pointer and put the home team ahead by six. Nymburk failed to score again, dropping to a third consecutive defeat, while Avtodor improved to 5-4.
Star Player
Travis Peterson. The 30-year-old American did everything on the court: scoring inside and out, rebounding and distributing. He also knocked down the game's biggest shot.
