Aaron Cel – League’s top Polish player
Turow forward Aaron Cel named the VTB United League’s top Polish player in 2012/13.
The VTB United League inaugurated individual prizes this season for the top players from each of the nine countries featuring at least one League club (the prize is awarded by citizenship, not club allegiance). In the six countries represented by one club (Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Belarus, Czech Republic and Kazakhstan), a panel of League experts determines the winner. The top player from Russia (nine clubs), Lithuania (three clubs) and Ukraine (two clubs) will be chosen by the League in partnership with a leading sports media outlet in that country: Russian information agency R-Sport (RIA Novosti), Lithuanian website basketnews.lt and Ukrainian website basket-planet.com.
Aaron Cel is the third player to be honored. Petr Benda (Nymburk) of the Czech Republic and Tanel Sokk (Kalev) of Estonia already received their awards.
Cel played 18 games for Turow this season, averaging 9.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 0.8 assists and an 11.8 efficiency rating.
- I’m excited to receive this prestigious honor, - Cel shared in an interview. – I’m very happy to have this award. This is the first time I’ve been recognized as the best player in Poland. It’s also great motivation for the future. I dedicate my prize to my teammates, coaches, and, of course, the fans. Basketball wouldn’t be as interesting without them.
