CSKA - the champion of the League!

 

The Final Four in Vilnius and the third championship in the history of the League ended with triumph of CSKA. In the final match the army team came out on top against UNICS Kazan - 74:62.

The final match CSKA started with a jerk 11:1 and implemented three distance shots of three. UNICS reduced the backlog to «-5», but didn’t manage to do more. However, the coach of UNICS Evgeny Pashutin managed to wake up his players. Kelly Mac Carty and Nathan Jawai fought on the rebounds, and Lynn Greer made use of Andrey Vorontsevich’s mistake  and scored with a foul so that the difference reduced to a minimum - 34:33.

In general, it was just a beginning. Javan and his partners prevented attempts of the red- blue to get ahead and this final remained a duel of the army club with Lietuvos Rytas that took place on Wednesday: Kazlauskas players were always ahead, but the opponent was always there.

However, early in the final 10-minute segment the participant of the  Euroleague Final Four finally made a spurt - 9:1, which culminated in a brilliant distant hit by Ramunas Siskauskas on 24th second - 62:52 six minutes before the end.

After that the tribunes of Siemens Arena began to chant loudly the nickname of their former idol, Siska! Siska!. As a result, CSKA became the champion of the League for the second time in three years of the history of the competition!

The final score - 74:62. The most productive in CSKA were Darius Lavrinovic (15 points) and Ramunas Siskauskas (12), in UNICS Lynn Greer's 14 points, Nathan Jawai -13.

During the awards ceremony the best players of the Final Four have been traditionally declared. A symbolic top 5 includes forwards Andrey Kirilenko (CSKA) and Darius Lavrinovic (CSKA), center Jonas Valanciunas (Lietuvos Rytas), guards Roderick Blakney (Lokokomotiv Kuban), and Henry Domercant (UNICS). Well, Andrey Kirilenko became the MVP of the Final Four.

- We plan to win three titles, we don't hide it, - said the head coach of CSKA Jonas Kazlauskas. - The other thing is if we will be lucky enough to do it but we will try hard. We have the reason to celebrate now. UNICS is a talented team, one of 8 best in Europe. Besides, the game was at high stakes, therefore it turned to be a battle. Obviously, if we played at 100 percent tonight the final would not be a final. We will get back to work tomorrow because we will have anothe Final Four in the end of the next week.

- We played against CSKA at the maximum, kept in suspense the opponent the entire game - said the head coach of UNICS Evgeny Pashutin. - In the end the match we led CSKA to do 3-4 rebounds and it turned into 8 points. In general, in the Final Four we were worthy of all the guys deserve a word of thanks, and also Domercant been recognized as the best shouting guard of the tournament.
