Enisey Rally Falls Short
UNICS Kazan defeated Enisey Krasnoyarsk on the road, 87-83. Keith Langford and Latavious Williams helped the visitors to a 17-point lead at halftime. Up double digits much of the second half, Kazan surrendered a late run to Enisey, watching its deficit shrink to two in the final seconds. But Evgeny Pashutin's men held on for the win, clinching 2nd place in the standings.
Intro
These two teams had different objectives entering Sunday's contest. The home team hoped to hang onto 9th place, while prepping for the FIBA Europe Cup Final Four. Kazan, meanwhile, wanted to secure 2nd place in the standings.
The visitors looked to pull away in the opening period, led by superstar guard Keith Langford. The American had 15 points in the first 12 minutes, connecting on six of eight field-goal attempts. He got some help from Quino Colom and Latavious Williams, putting UNICS on top at halftime by 17, 54-37.
Enisey solved Langford in the 3rd quarter, holding him to one point on four field-goal attempts. Kazan's offense suffered, helping the home team hang around.
Trailing by as much as 20 in the 4th quarter, Enisey suddenly erupted from beyond the arc, knocking down four straight attempts to pull within seven, 82-75.
Turning Point
After Langford missed a pair of free throws, Alexey Vzdykhalkin drilled a '3' to make it a four-point game. On the following possession, Yakovenko stole the ball and got fouled, converting the first attempt and intentionally missing the second. David Kennedy snagged the offensive board, but Enisey couldn't take advantage as Yakovenko was blocked on a layup attempt.
Though Krasnoyarsk cut the deficit to two with eight seconds remaining, Kazan's Arturas Milaknis converted a pair of clutch free throws, sealing a win for the visitors.
Star Player
Latavious Williams. The American had a terrific all-around performance in Krasnoyarsk. The home team shut Langford down in the second half, but Williams filled the void, converting 12 of 13 field-goal attempts for 27 points to go with 10 rebounds.
