Stifling Defense Keys Lokomotiv Win
Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar defeated Enisey Krasnoyarsk at home, 77-51. One of Europe's top defensive teams limited the Siberian visitors to 27 points in the first half to take a 10-point lead, then put the game away for good in the 3rd quarter, outscoring Enisey, 19-5. Loko improves to 21-7 with two games remaining in the regular season.
Recap
The Siberians traveled to Krasnodar hoping to spring an upset against one of the league's top teams despite being eliminated from the postseason chase. Lokomotiv, meanwhile, is battling for 3rd place and couldn't afford to slip up at home against a sub-.500 team.
Anthony Randolph stole the show in the 1st quarter, scoring seven points to give Kuban an early lead. Aggressive from beyond the arc, the two teams combined to go 0-12 in the 1st quarter.
Dontaye Draper finally knocked down the first '3' of the game midway through the 2nd quarter, but defense continued to dominate the narrative. Not surprisingly, Kuban was a bit more comfortable, pulling away by 10 at halftime, 37-27. Even Andrey Zubkov's ejection in the second period couldn't slow Krasnodar's momentum.
Enisey's offense sputtered to a grinding halt in the 3rd quarter. Randolph and Draper took advantage, leading Krasnodar to a 19-5 advantage in the period and 24-point lead. The home team cruised to victory in the 4th, holding Enisey to a measly 51 points.
Star Player
