Loko Rides Late Surge To 9th-Straight Win
Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar defeated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd in Moscow, 89-77. The visitors led most of the contest, but needed a late run to put Oktyabr away. Krasnodar has now won nine straight in the league.
Recap
The Krasnodar express keeps chugging along, entering Wednesday's game with an eight-game winning streak. Georgios Bartzokas's club had no intention of seeing the streak end against Krasny Oktyabr.
But Oktyabr played Lokomotiv tough in the first half. The visitors never led by more than seven prior to the break and held a slender 42-38 advantage at halftime. Forward Ekene Ibekwe did much of the damage for Oktyabr, holding his own against Anthony Randolph and Chris Singleton under the basket.
Krasnodar's newest addition, guard Matt Janning, started to heat up in the second half. The 27-year-old American helped the visitors secure a double-digit lead. Malcolm Delaney was also effective in the pick-and-roll. Up 15 points midway through the 3rd quarter, the Railwaymen appeared on their way to victory.
The home team had other plans. After cutting the deficit to 10, Oktyabr took advantage of three Loko technicals, pulling within three with seven and a half minutes to play.
Krasnodar responded out of a timeout. Dontaye Draper drilled a '3', Anthony Randolph added a dunk and Janning knocked down another jumper to push the lead back to 10. Lokomotiv cruised the rest of the way, leading by as much as 19, before Oktyabr finished the game on a 7-0 run for a final score of 89-77.
