Avtodor Dazzles vs. Astana
Avtodor defeated Astana at home, 132-72. Saratov set a new scoring record vs. the visiting Kazakh club, while clinching a playoff spot with its 15th win. Avtodor has reached the postseason in each of its first two seasons in the league.
Recap
Astana has struggled without several of its leaders, going winless since late January. Avtodor, on the other hand, had won five straight entering Saturday's contest and could still finish as high as 5th in the standings. Not surprisingly, the Russian club was heavily favored at home.
Saratov matched expectations from the opening tip. Head coach Vladimir Antsiferov promised before the game that his team would stick to its signature brand of up-tempo, high-scoring basketball and the team did not disappoint. Avtodor shot 85% from inside the arc and 60% from beyond in the 1st quarter to take a 32-20 lead.
The home team continued to dominate on offense in the second period, picking up a 23-point lead at halftime.
Nothing changed after the break. Saratov's lead ballooned to 39 at the end of the three quarters and ultimately settled at 60 points.
Thanks to a head-to-head advantage with its playoff rivals, Saratov has clinched a spot in the postseason for the second season in a row and improves to 15-8.
Star Player
Paul Stoll. Avtodor lit up Astana's defense for 40 minutes, led by Mexican playmaker Paul Stoll. He finished with 23 points on 7-9 shooting from downtown to go with 14 assists and five steals.
Stat of the Game
132 - number of points scored by Avtodor. That breaks the record set by Saratov earlier this season in Astana (131).
