Zenit Escapes Tbilisi With Win

Zenit defeated Vita on the road, 90-84. The home team played 3rd-ranked Zenit tough, keeping the score close until the final minutes, when the visitors finally pulled away for the win.

Zenit traveled to Tbilisi as a heavy favorite and started the game on top, picking up a double-digit lead in the opening minutes. But Vita hung around, boosted by Irakly Chlaidze's five points to end the 1st quarter.

The home team was even more impressive in the second. Chlaidze, Daniel Bejarano and Vladislav Staratelev got hot, helping Vita cut knot the score at 41-41 midway through the period. Despite trailing by a point at halftime, 47-46, Tbilisi played one of its best quarters of the season, outscoring Zenit, 29-19.

Coming out of the break, Tbilisi hung tough. Zenit's lead never exceeded five points until the final minutes of the 4th quarter, when Kaspars Berzins took control, scoring on back-to-back offensive rebounds to make it a two-possession game, 88-82. Vita still had a chance, but couldn't get a 3-pointer to fall, ultimately losing by six to remain without a win in the league.
