Enisey Survives Kutaisi Test
Enisey defeated Vita in Kutaisi on Sunday, 85-72. David Kennedy gave the visitors a double-digit lead in the opening period, which Enisey managed to protect the rest of the way. Vita kept it close, cutting the deficit to seven in the 3rd quarter, but ultimately came up short. Enisey moves into a tie for 10th with the win, while Vita continues searching for its elusive first win.
Intro
Enisey traveled to Kutaisi for Sunday's game, the city's first-ever VTB United League game. Vita dealt the first blow, jumping out to a 12-6 lead thanks to a pair of long-range bombs from Daniel Bejarano.
Enisey didn't take long to respond. David Kennedy was unstoppable for the visitors, scoring on fast breaks, forcing turnovers, dishing out assists and drawing fouls. By the end of the opening period, Krasnoyarsk enjoyed a 32-19 advantage.
Vita didn't fold. The home team managed to neutralize Kennedy in the 3rd quarter, exposing Enisey's limited options on offense. At the other end, Daniel Bejarano, Andre Jones and Irakly Chlaidze helped cut the deficit to seven, 62-55, late in the period.
Turning Point
Enisey answered the challenge. Oleg Okulov put out an all-Russian lineup and Vita's offense quickly went silent. Baskets from Denis Zakharov, Artem Yakovenko and Vladimir Pichkurov helped Krasnoyarsk pull away. Midway through the 4th, Enisey's lead had ballooned to 18 points, 74-56, erasing any lingering doubt over the outcome.
Star Player
David Kennedy. He staked Krasnoyarsk to a 13-point lead in the 1st quarter, scoring, dishing and rebounding. Kennedy didn't quite record a triple-double, but put up impressive numbers nonetheless: 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
