Zenit Tops Astana Again

Zenit defeated Astana at home, 115-59. St. Petersburg took control early, building a big lead by halftime. The home team ultimately won by 56 with each player scoring at least two points in the victory.

Recap
Astana's last visit to St. Petersburg in April 2015 ended in a victory as the Kazakh club clinched the final spot in the postseason, edging out Kalev. Hamstrung by injuries, Astana proved unable to challenge for the playoffs this season, but hoped to put up a fight in St. Petersburg. One week earlier, Ramunas Butautas's club had lost to Zenit by 22 points at home.

On Wednesday, Zenit set out to prove that the previous week's result was no fluke. Janis Timma and Pavel Antipov combined for 14 points in the early going, while the defense limited Astana to a measly 12 points in the opening period (27-12).

During the 2nd quarter, Zenit added to its advantage, helped by Omar Thomas, who made his return from injury. Vasily Karasev's club led 58-28 at halftime.

During the second half, Zenit continued to pile up the points, easily surpassing 100 points on the way to a dominant 56-point win.

Star Player
Janis Timma. The Latvian forward scored his team's first eight points and ended with a team-high 18, while playing lockdown defense.

Stat of the Game
115 points - Zenit's best performance on offense since joining the VTB United League last season.
