Delaney Beats Buzzer, Sinks Astana
Lokomotiv-Kuban defeated Astana on the road, 91-89. The Railwaymen secured a comfortable advantage in the first half, but Astana battled back, nearly forcing overtime. The game tied at 89-89, Malcolm Delanely sank a stepback jumper at the buzzer to give Lokomotiv the win.
Intro
Despite playing on the road, Lokomotiv opened on a 9-0 run. Krasnodar couldn't miss from outside (seven different Kuban players made at least one 3-pointer in the first half).
After giving up 30 points in the 1st quarter, Astana managed to slow the tempo in the 2nd quarter, limiting the visitors to 23. Nik Caner-Medley led the visitors with 11 points at the break, helping Astana cut the deficit to nine, 53-44.
The Kazakh club caught Loko quickly in the 3rd quarter. Astana took its first lead on an Alexey Zhukanenko alley-oop, 64-63, with 3:17 to play in the period.
Trailing by four entering the 4th quarter, Astana briefly fell behind by seven, before regaining the lead midway through the period.
Turning Point
With two minutes to play, Astana enjoyed an 86-85 advantage and had a chance to extend the lead. But Ryan Broekhoff blocked Jerry Johnson's 3-point attempt, setting off a Loko fast break, which ended in an Anthony Randolph dunk.
On Loko's next possession, Randolph dunked again, giving the Railwaymen a three-point advantage. Needing a stop, the visitors instead fouled Caner-Medley on the perimeter. The American big man coolly drained three free throws to knot the score at 89-89.
Facing the prospect of overtime, Malcolm Delaney stepped up big-time. The Loko guard drove the lane, shook his defender and rocked back for the game-winning jumper at the buzzer!
