Avtodor Streak Reaches Six

Avtodor defeated Vita in Tbilisi, 111-59. Several 3-pointers from Jeremy Chappell helped Avtodor build a nine-point lead, 27-18, to end the 1st quarter. Saratov went on to win by 52 and secure its sixth straight victory.

Recap
Vita got some good news prior to Sunday's game. Former VEF coach Nikolai Mazur has been named head coach, while two Americans joined the team: Andre Jones and Omar Thomas.

Jones and Thomas were not available for the game against Avtodor, however, forcing Mazur to play with a limited rotation. Early on, Vita held its own, trailing by just four, 18-14, late in the 1st quarter.

But three 3-pointers from Jeremy Chappell shifted the momentum and gave Avtodor a 27-18 lead entering the 2nd quarter.

The visitors continued to pull away over the next 10 minutes: knocking down 3-pointers, layups and fast breaks. Avtodor simply could not be stopped, rolling up a 27-point lead at halftime, 54-27.

A pair of 3-pointers from Paul Stoll and Jeremy Chappell to start the 3rd quarter made it a 30-point game. Saratov coach Alexey Vasilyev brought in the reserves, giving big minutes to Alan Makkiev, Tamirland Bekkiev and Ivan Rusetsky, who helped Saratov ice a dominating win on the road.

Star Player
Jeremy Chappell. The American didn't play that many minutes, but hit some big shots in the 1st quarter to help Avtodor pull away. The guard finished the game a perfect 6-6 from the field and 2-2 from the line.
