UNICS Makes It 5 Straight

UNICS Kazan defeated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd at home, 97-76. The Tatar club controlled the game from the opening tip to win its fifth straight.

Recap
Krasny Oktyabr had lost three straight entering Sunday's road game. The team also parted ways with starting center Dmitry Sokolov earlier in the week, who signed with Khimki. UNICS, meanwhile, came in with a four-game winning streak and was determined to keep the pressure on front-running CSKA and Zenit with another victory.

Kazan gradually pulled away in the first half by running the offense through the paint. Quino Colom was perfect off the bench, shooting 7-7 in the first half to lead the team to a 60-42 lead at the break. As a team, UNICS shot 65% in the opening 20 minutes, scoring 30 points in the paint.

Volgograd's defense improved in the second half, limiting Kazan to two points over the first six minutes of the 3rd quarter. The visitors got as close as nine points, 62-53, but 3-point shots from Petr Gubanov and Vadim Panin quickly restored the home team's advantage. Trailing by 17 at the end of three quarters, the visitors failed to threaten in the final period, falling to a 97-76 defeat. Kazan has now won five in a row and is the second team to record 10 wins (behind CSKA).
