CSKA 'D' Smothers Visiting Minsk

CSKA defeated Tsmoki-Minsk at home, 92-48. The visitors won the opening period, racing to a 19-15 lead. Needing an answer, CSKA got it on the defensive end, holding the visitors to 16 points over the next two quarters to seize complete control. The Army Men ultimately won by 44 and improved to a league-best 10-1.

Recap
The visitors showed no fear in the opening minutes, leading by as much as six points in the 1st quarter (Ivan Maras was especially effective). But a 6-0 spurt from Nando De Colo to open the 2nd quarter put the home team on top and they never looked back. The Dragons only scored seven points in the period while giving up 28 to trail by 17 at halftime.

Nothing changed following the break. CSKA matched its 2nd-quarter dominance, outscoring the visitors 28-9 to erase any doubt over the outcome of the game. Dimitris Itoudis emptied the bench in the second half, with Dmitry and Mikhail Kulagin combining for 11 points and four assists in the lopsided victory.

Quotes
CSKA head coach Dimitris Itoudis:
- Congratulations to the team on another win and excellent performance. We were very focused. During the 1st quarter, we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds and committed several turnovers, but once we stopped doing that we were able to control the tempo. We won the 2nd and 3rd quarters by a score of 28-7 and 28-9. Minsk is playing good basketball this season and they were missing two leading players today. Nonetheless, we did good defensive work against their leaders: Hilliard and Kudrautsau didn't score a single point. We also got the job done against Maras and Mirkovic. I want to thank the fans who came out on this Sunday evening and supported the team.

Tsmoki-Minsk head coach Igor Grishchuk:
- It's hard to say anything about this game. CSKA didn't leave us with any chances. I can only be happy with the 1st quarter, when we battled and still had energy. We're still missing two important players to injuries and don't have much depth. Against an opponent like that, you need 12 talented players.
